The Tidewater Burn Survivors support group connects members and is the conduit for members of the Burn Community. Tidewater Burn Survivors includes Burn Survivors, Fire Fighters, Health Care Professionals and anyone affected by the trauma of burns. The Tidewater Burn Survivor support group enables burn victims to draw on one another strengths, experiences and provide resources in their journey from victims to becoming Survivors.
Welcome to the Tidewater Burn Survivors
Tidewater Burn Survivors is the first and only burn support group for burn survivors in the Hampton Roads region. We dedicated this burn support group to the brave patients who have suffered a burn injury. Our purpose is to provide a forum to share stories, celebrate clinical progress and provide emotional support, making their recovery a personal success.
The Tidewater Burn Survivors (TBS) is a community comprised of burn survivors, fire-fighters, burn unit staff, and advisers who have come together to offer support and education to any person or people that have been affected by burns. The Tidewater Burn Survivors Support Group was established in October 2012 with the assistance of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital to bring together like minded burn survivors who wish to give of themselves to help other burn survivors and their families.
Our main objectives are to help support the unique needs of the burn survivors in Tidewater and surrounding areas, to provide a positive environment for new burn victims and their families to have hope and understanding.
What We Do
We hold a monthly burn support group meeting. With the help of Sentara's facility and remote attendance technology (WebEx), we have become an international burn support group. We have people joining us from just outside of Norfolk, to North Carolina, and as far as Nova Scotia. Tidewater Burn Survivors is working to become a not-for-profit organization. This would allow Tidewater Burn Survivors to work with many different organizations throughout Tidewater to advise, educate and develop programs. The common goal is to help survivors feel they are not alone in any stage of their recovery; the Tidewater Burn Survivors members have been active in offering support to all survivors and family members of survivors since 2012.
